SOUTH BEND, Indiana – SBMF announced today that Tim Travis has been appointed the new CEO as of January 2023. Travis will be bringing his experience in healthcare management and organizational leadership to SBMF. Travis’ predecessor, Dr. Joyce Simpson, will stay at the organization and focus on pathology work.
Tim Travis earned his MBA at Indiana Wesleyan University and his Master of Science from the University of Louisville. Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Certified Healthcare Financial Professional, and Certified Medical Practice Executive, Travis also has experience working as a Board-Certified Nursing Home Administrator and as Regional Vice President of Operations at a Senior Living Company in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2018, Travis began a career in pathology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he was the Vice Chair of Finance & Operations for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
“Tim Travis, our new CEO, is a wonderful addition to the SBMF team. SBMF enjoys the opportunity to grow and thrive under the direction of Travis given his past business experiences and success in pathology. SBMF employees and its Board of Directors are looking forward to his optimistic leadership as he navigates the future of SBMF.”
– Robin Zon, MD, Board Chair
“I’m looking forward to helping SBMF grow. Our team is strong, and we have motivated people who want direction. As long as I’m providing the type of leadership they need, our team will want to be part of achieving our organizational goals.” said Travis.
“Our 5-year goal is to expand 5 times over. This will include acquiring new businesses and expanding to complimentary businesses,” he continued, “Pathology is at its early stages of technology compared to the rest of healthcare industry, so I see a future in digital pathology, where we can scan slides digitally, implement AI, and use molecular pathology.”
As pathology’s technology advances, SBMF will be part of that by developing partnerships with organizations who are at the forefront of development.
Travis states “This is a unique opportunity to grow. Especially since we may be the only non-profit pathology group in this region and possibly nation.”
Tim Travis is a Kentucky native. His wife and three boys are still in Louisville but will move to South Bend at the end of the school year.
